After last nights pump failure along the 17th street Canal and the ditched efforts to plug the "leaks" along Lake Pontchartrain, water has slowly risen throughout the entire city of New Orleans, filling the city up like a bathtub. The worst fears of this epic disaster have unfolded before our eyes, and even with all the speculation about this potential scenario that has been discused for so many years, most of what is going on now in the Crescent City seems almost unbelievable. As of early this morning, sporadic reports of water 20 feet deep in some locations were trickling into the newsrooms.

As has been discussed continually, New Orelans is practically all below sea level, and the breaks in the Lake Pontchartrain area will, unless plugged very shortly, continue to flood the city until the water reaches the level of the lake--nearly 20 feet in some areas.
